Fire Station 19, Seattle, Washington, Thanksgiving

Travis stared at Vic, shaking his head. "I -- you -- you invited my parents?!"

"Not on purpose!" Vic protested. "I live at your house! Nari came to check on things and we were talking and I just happened to mention you and Stark were going to be here for dinner and you know I can't say 'no' to your mom."

"You didn't think that maybe I didn't want to introduce my --" Travis lowered his voice. "-- My alien sex amigo to my homophobic parents??"

"Sex amigo?" Vic asked, smirking. "Oh my god have you guys still not had the 'are we boyfriends' conversation yet?"

"Not the point!" Travis threw his arms in the air. "Ohhhh, this is going to be terrible. This is going to be so bad. . . ."

[for the sex amigo. Up early because holiday slowness, to be heavily adapted from 5x06 "Little Girl Blue"]

"I'm not part of the team anymore," Travis said, sounding a little sad. "I'd just get in the way."

"We'll just make sure things are ready when they come back then," Stark said. "Just the tables? Is there something else we should do? Or something else we can do?"

He put a hand on Travis's shoulder. "I know it's hard, trying to make sure you aren't in the way."

"Tables, and maybe setting them?" Travis shrugged. "And it probably won't hurt to check in on Jack and ohmygodmyparentsjustarrived."

A white-haired white man with hair remarkably similar to Travis's was coming in the front door, along with a salt-and-pepper-haired Asian woman, who smiled brightly when she spotted them.

"Travis!" Nari said happily.

Paul's smile was smaller and more awkward, but no less pleased. "Son."

Stark dropped his hand from Travis's shoulder and took a step backward. He had absolutely no idea what was expected in this situation.

"Hello?" That seemed safe enough.

"Mom," Travis said, accepting a hug from Nari. Then, after a beat, he looked up and added "Dad."

Paul looked faintly resigned.

"Glad you could come, I guess," Travis said. He stepped back, reaching for Stark's hand. Feeling that same defensive tick that he used to feel when he had Michael over, before Travis had tried to cut his mother and father out of his life. "This is Stark. Stark, Paul and Nari Montgomery."

"It's so lovely to meet you!" Nari gushed.

". . . What's with the mask?" asked Paul.

Stark squeezed Travis's hand briefly.

"I...I have a condition. It's...I...I just need to keep that part of my face covered," he managed to get out. He'd told people it was a condition quite a few times now but this felt more difficult.

He managed a small smile in Nari's direction after that.

Nari made a little tsking noise and nodded in sympathy. Paul grunted noncomittally.

"Anyway," Travis said. "We're just getting started setting up some tables. If you want to help?"

"Of course, honey!" Nari said. "Paul, help these boys out here while I go check on things in the kitchen." She gave Stark another smile and reached out to give his hand a little squeeze. "It's so nice to meet you. Let's sit near each other at dinner, I want to know everything about you!"

Travis squeezed his eyes shut. "Mom."

Stark gave Nari another hesitant smile. To his credit he didn't look nearly as panicked as he felt. He had very little experience with mothers.

"Alright..." He nodded once. "If you like." He'd just have to figure out what he could actually say.

The look he managed to shoot Travis was very clearly a silent plea for help.

Nari beamed. Travis moved to herd Stark towards the door to the barn. "Great, Mom, thanks, see you in a bit!"

They had some very awkward table setting up to do!
